It’s snowing in Brighton

It started snowing in Brighton yesterday. ‘Our’ kitty (we kinda share him with the neighbours – he gets love from all around) had never seen snow before, and so was fascinated by the strange white stuff falling from the sky. We took him out later, and I really wish I’d taken some photos of him in my arms, covered in snowflakes, gazing at the sky, using his little paws to pat the excess snow off himself. Mainly because it’s one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.

For now, here’s a picture of kitty staring out of the window in awe.

Quite an amusing morning today… thanks to the snow pretty much blocking us in (our front door just happens to be at the precise angle the wind was blowing, so we had a little mountain of snow on our doorstep), then finally getting out of the flat and realising that no buses were running. I figured I’d walk it, since I was wrapped up warm and armed with a phone camera. I actually got some pretty nice photos of Brighton wrapped in snow, though I probably shouldn’t advertise the fact that I took time over any of them, since I was kinda meant to be walking to work… for which I was already 10 minutes late when I got out of the house.

The roads were pretty much deserted all the way into work, aside from a bus that had slid into the railings on the side of the road by the Clock Tower, and had attracted quite a large crowd by the time I had got there, all of whom were waving their cameras and cameraphones at it and generally being annoying bastards. I joined in, obviously.

They freed it pretty quickly… amazingly enough they had two people pushing it while the other drove forward slowly. Somehow that worked. The crowd went ‘waheeey’. I carried on walking to work. Only an hour late, but I had the prettiest, most interesting and – fuck it, I’ll say it – fun Monday morning I can remember since I last took some time off work.

You can browse the rest of my Brighton set on Flickr – and like me, you can enjoy my glorious hometown in the sun, snow and rain. Or not.

By the by, haven’t we ever heard of chain tires in Britain? You’d think that with the amount of complaining we do about our weather, we’d be better prepared for a day of slightly aberrant weather…

The more eagle-eyed of you may have noticed that I recently redesigned my blog. This was kinda a kick up my own arse, in order to try to post on it more often. So… best be prepared for rather more frequent quantities of endlessly verbose, cynical bastardry than usual.
